Neil Carson's NEW NOSTALGIA Live @ 210 - 2/18

Thanks for joining me for Post #3, as I continue to debate whether to write in the first or third person.

It seems to me that the 1980's are in vogue right now. The other day a friend suggested to me that we attend a group fitness class and wear brightly-colored legwarmers for the occasion. Needless to say I rebuffed their offer.

I was born in 1991, and though I'm sure I'm over-romanticizing it I still feel I missed out on something special in the 1980's--especially with regard to music. I'll level with you that a lot of it sucks, but a lot of it doesn't. Not to me anyway.

To make a short story long (thanks Jim for that phrase), this Sunday 2/18 my band New Nostalgia will be performing at 210 Restaurant--we're a 9-piece jazz/pop/rock band that plays my arrangements of 80's pop tunes. Here are the phenomenal musicians that will be joining me:

Connor Bernhard - Trumpet; Alex Beltran - Tenor; Matt Kowalski - Trombone; Dan Burke - Bari; Brandon Hunt - Guitar; Carl Kennedy - Keyboards; Tim Seisser - Bass; Zack Marks - Drums

If you come, you will hear my take on 80's music, just one of the many takes out there. But this is a little different. This is New Nostalgia--a bit of the old, a bit of the new, but very unique.

Check it out below, and if you like it come hear us on Sunday! Oh, and it's all ages, so if you want to alienate your children bring them!

Steely Dan's "The Royal Scam" Live @ Martyrs' 1/24

After a highly successful performance at the Jazz Record Art Collective last September, Neil Carson reconvenes his 12-piece band for a very special double-bill of classic albums at Martyrs'.

Newly-christened as "Neil Carson's Day-Glo Freaks," the band takes the stage once more to perform Steely Dan's classic 1976 album The Royal Scam in its entirety, with Neil's lovingly crafted arrangements and a spectacular lineup of Chicago musicians. Plus, Bonzo Squad will bring back to life Stevie Wonder's spectacular 1973 album Innervisions, in a one-night-only musical pairing that celebrates some of the very best music the 70's have to offer.

Neil Carson's day-glo freaks:

Alyssa Allgood, Greg Woods - Vocals; Constantine Alexander - Trumpet; Corbin Andrick - Tenor/Alto Sax; Alex Wasily - Trombone; Dan Burke - Bari Sax; Zoey Witz - Guitar; Andrew Lawrence, Carl Kennedy - Keyboards; Andrew Vogt - Bass; Zack Marks - Drums
